Cutting Tips
You can count on Emerald Magic to help
you every step of the way to give you a healthy lawn & landscape.
In turn, we must count on you to properly water and mow your
lawn. Let’s work together to create a beautiful, healthy lawn!
Mowing Tips:
HEIGHT:
Please cut your
lawn regularly to 2½ - 3 inches. Determining how often you mow
should be based on the growth rate of the grass. To keep your
lawn looking it’s best, remove only about 1/3 of the leaf blade
each time you mow. Another good practice is to change direction
with each mowing. This keeps the turf growing erect rather than
leaning in the direction it was mowed. It also helps reduce
turf wear and scalping.
SHARP BLADE:
Making sure your rotary
mower blade is sharp is probably the single most important requirement
for proper mowing. A dull blade rips and shreds the grass.
Mowing with a dull blade makes the grass susceptible to several
problems – such as brown leaf tips, diseases and insects. A
good guideline is to sharpen your mower blade once a month.
Try it – you’ll notice a difference! DO NOT mow the lawn when
it is wet!
IN
SUMMER:
It’s a good idea in hot weather to water
your lawn the day before you mow and try to mow during the coolest
part of the day. This minimizes the browning effect of summer
mowing!
Watering your Lawn without
Auto Sprinklers:
DO
NOT WATER IN THE HOT AFTERNOON SUN – less effective because
of evaporation.
DO
NOT WATER IN THE EVENING – wet grass blades at night promote
fungus.
For Best Results watering should be done
before 10:00 am. DO NOT WATER LIGHTLY! Water
45 minutes plus each area. 2-4x per week. DO NOT WATER
ON THE DAYS THE LAWN IS TO BE CUT! Adjust
watering to weather conditions: Cool temperatures water twice
a week, Warmer weather water 4 times a week. Take into consideration
the sun/shade conditions of your lawn and adjust watering
accordingly.
Watering your Lawn with
Auto Sprinklers:
DO
NOT WATER IN THE AFTERNOON OR EVENING!
Start
watering cycle between 4:00 & 6:00 am to discourage disease.
Cooler
temperatures (75 and below – usually April, May, September,
October)
Set
sprinklers for 15-20 minutes per zone ever other morning.
Warmer
temperatures (75 and above – usually June, July, August)
Set
sprinklers for 20-30 minutes per zone every morning.
*DO
NOT WATER ON THE DAYS THE LAWN IS TO BE CUT!
*If
we recently had heavy rain, turn off sprinklers for a few days.
Remember a moist lawn does not need more moisture.
